Weekend Reviewer | Best Hip Hop Yoga Class
Hip Hop Yoga at Austin's Kula Yoga is an event you are not late for. If you're late, you'll be doing your asanas against a wall, and you'll deserve it because the class is that good.About Hip Hop Yoga at Kula
This intermediate class is great for athletes or wanna-be yogis who need to add a stretching component to their fitness plan but think yoga will be slow and boring.
This yoga class is not slow or boring.
Kula's Hip Hop yoga class is Vinyasa Flow based to the groove of contemporary hip hop music. The transitions are quick and the sequence of asanas are challenging. You will sweat a lot, so bring a towel. Booty shaking and arm waving are optional.
This class requires familiarity with beginner-level yoga postures, so it is not ideal for true beginners. But with a couple months of Hatha and Vinyasa classes under your mat, you'll be ready to transition in. Advanced yogis will appreciate the non-traditional sun salutations, breath work and emphasis on strength-building.
It's Worth the Price
I paid $15 for a drop-in class, and it was worth every penny - and I'm stingy. Class passes are available for bulk purchase, and you'll get a better rate that way. New students get a complimentary class.
The Best Part - Bring Your Kids!
But here's the best part and one of the reasons I can't speak highly enough about this company and its classes. Got kids? Go to the Saturdays 9 am Hip Hop Yoga class, and send your kiddos to the Children's Yoga class happening at the same time. (Call to confirm the age range for this class. It has changed recently.)
